Ustin Maltsev's fund took part in the project «We write about charity»

   A competition on creation of articles on charitable subjects in Ukrainian Wikipedia- «We write about charity» - was held for the first time in Ukraine. A charity event which was held in December 2011 - January 2012, was organized by the Association of philanthropists of Ukraine and social organization "Wikimedia Ukraine".
   On March 1, 2012 organizers and judges summed up results of the competition in the office of an information agency "LigaBusinessInform". Chief executive of the social organization "Wikimedia Ukraine" Yury Peroganich, president of the Association of philanthropists of Ukraine, a chairman of the jury of the competition Alexander Maksimchuk, judges - the chief executive of the Institute of mass media Victoria Syumar and the media expert, Andrey Kulikov, ICTV show presenter took part in the press conference devoted to this event. There were also judges at the ceremony- the Chairman of the Supervisory board of the International Charity Fund «Ukraine 3000» Katerina Yushchenko, the chairman of the Supervisory board of Association of philanthropists of Ukraine, the President of the Welfare fund «Friends of children» Marina Krysa, chief executive of the Research and Information Centre «Gromadsky prostir» Alla Prun, trustees of «Vikimedia Ukraine», Ustin Maltsev, the head of Kherson welfare fund, representatives of the organizations - members of Association of philanthropists of Ukraine and others.
   The competition «We write about charity» started on December 12, 2011 and was timed to coincide with the Day of charity. Till January 29, 2012 all interested people could create or edit articles in Ukrainian Wikipedia explaining concepts and terms connected with charity and corporate social responsibility or tell about Ukrainian and international organizations and individual philanthropists. It was also possible to translate into Ukrainian relevant articles from foreign Wikipedias, adding and improving of already existing articles was admitted.
   Alexander Maksimchuk told that they gave forth to this competition right after the Day of charity and now when they have visible results, he is sure that it was a good decision. He added that they could greatly expand the idea of charity in Wikipedia, draw attention of its authors to this aspect of public life and push to further development of these subjects. According to his words, today charitable sector has to use all possible mechanisms of mass media and is searching for new opportunities of information presenting to draw attention to its activity and development. He accentuated that it is a new huge scope of work creating innovative resources and with their help reaching audience. It is a bright and modern way of positioning of charitable organizations. It is one of the ways of charity development.

   Yury Peroganich said that all who write to Wikipedia are true philanthropists. Thus people endow the knowledge, time and work for the sake of enlightenment of others. He informed that the memorandum between «Wikimedia Ukraine» and the National union of local historians of Ukraine was made the day before. This document provides in particular joint activity and forwarding work of researchers of the native land and editors of Ukrainian Wikipedia as well as holding trainings to draw scientists, museum staff and teachers to editing articles.
   Victoria Syumar marked the high level of articles. She said that she saw many works of a much higher level than one could see in Ukrainian press. Social are deeply investigated, an excellent comparative analysis is made with other countries of the world in particular, an interesting statistics is given. All this shows deep understanding of the subject and from now on all may use this information.
   Andrey Kulikov mentioned that it is not enough to use a computer for putting articles to Wikipedia. It is necessary to have conscience and the certain level of knowledge. He said that he saw many thoughtful and careful works at the competition. It is important not only to fill in the Ukrainian Wikipedia, one has to create articles about Ukraine, its history, culture, achievements in other Wikipedias. Andrey Kulikov added that one of the possible steps of "Wikimedia Ukraine " is supplying with quality articles in foreign languages. Ustin Matsev told his opinion that putting articles about charity in "Wikimedia Ukraine" makes clear and understandable for all citizens of our country what charity actually means. Now it is necessary to pass on to systematic work in this direction.
   Thus during the whole competition 159 articles were processed. 121 articles was accepted for estimation, 109 new and 12 essentially added. Creation and addition of articles carried out 34 authors, some of those registered intentionally in Wikipedia for participation in the competition "We write about charity". Total amount of the added information was more than 2 MB. By the end of the competition 135 articles were created or essentially added from 211 articles in the category "Charity" due to the competition. Thus competition enriched charitable topic in Ukrainian Wikipedia almost three times.
   Valentina Kodola became the winner with significant breakdown - 320,13 points. She won the main prize notebook and the diploma of the winner.
The main award was bestowed by the Chairman of the Supervisory board of Fund "Ukraine 3000" madam Katerina Yushchenko. She thanked for their work, mind, talent, civic mindedness and attitudes. Your work is necessary for millions of users. Madam Katerina said about the importance of such competitions as they push on people to turn to various subjects of public life. She added that there has to be as much as possible of information on museum and historical subjects in Wikipedia.
   Alexander Maksimchuk thanked to all who joined realization of this very interesting project and expressed his hope for continuing of cooperation of Association of philanthropists of Ukraine and "Wikimedia Ukraine".
