Even the most effeminate aesthete will find something interesting for himself in Kherson regional art museum of A.Shovkunenko. Museum's collection includes works of Ukrainian and foreign painting, graphics, sculpture, applied and decorative art starting from the samples of Russian icon painting of the 17th century up to the works of contemporary Kherson artists.
Besides constant exhibits, the museum of Shovkunenko organizes picture shows with traveling paintings quite often. Thus, starting from May 2 an exhibition of contemporary icons was opened in Kherson. It already travelled to Nikolayev and Odessa. "Triumph of Orthodoxy", this is the name of the exhibition, presents the works of the famous family iconic workshop "Heaven on Earth" managed by the priest Sergey Pavelko. Contemporary icons of Nikolayev painters were presented in Kherson for the first time. Visitors will have a chance to see about 90 works made in different artistic manners.
The first week of the Lent is called traditionally the Triumph of Orthodoxy. Icon painters consider this time their professional holiday, this is why the family of Nikolayev artists coincided this exhibition with this great holiday.

A true pearl of the exhibition is considered an icon made with the new iconography technique - Protection of the Holy Mary of Kinburn - by whose side St.Nicolas, patron of all seamen, and St.Andrew the Apostle stand. Experts say that this is a modern artistic Ukrainian icon.
Many people came to admire iconic art, among whom were many famous Kherson political, public and cultural figures. Kherson and Tavrichesky Archbishop Ioann blessed the exhibit.
Kherson mayor Vladimir Saldo, Berezhnaya Zoya Yakovlevna, secretary of the city hall, Taras Buzak, manager of the internet edition "Khersonskaya Pravda" were among the well-known guests.
Outstanding poets of the Kherson region Zagorodnyuk Vasiliy Stepanovich and Kichinsky Anatoliy Ivanovich encouraged this event.
Ustin Maltsev, Kherson charity man and philanthropist, has kept the fast for already 8 years. It was absolutely impossible for him to miss such a spiritual event. He said that icon painting is a talisman and phylactery of our Slavic nation. This art trend is the basis of culture of our society and we must encourage, save and give these values to the new generation.
All Kherson people are welcome to the exhibition!

The charitable give out the door and God puts it back through the window.
